D’ORSAY

Born from a love affair that defied convention, D’ORSAY traces its origins to Paris in 1830, when Count Alfred d’Orsay created a fragrance for himself and his muse, Marguerite de Blessington. Presented without a name or label, in a simple bottle tied with blue ribbon, the perfume was conceived for both of them to wear. From its beginning, D’ORSAY placed intimacy, duality, and the universality of attraction at the center of its identity.

In 2015, Amélie Huynh rediscovered the nearly two-century-old house and began a new chapter for D’ORSAY. Rather than simply reconstructing its past, she returned to the idea behind Alfred and Marguerite’s original fragrance: perfume as an expression of the private and often contradictory emotions that exist between two people. The contemporary collection explores different states of love, from restraint and longing to obsession, desire, and intimacy.

Each D’ORSAY fragrance carries a phrase followed by the initials of an undisclosed personality, leaving the identity behind them deliberately unresolved. The names function like fragments of correspondence or private messages, inviting the wearer to attach their own memories and relationships to each scent. Like the original fragrance, the collection is created without distinction between masculine and feminine, allowing each composition to shift according to the person who wears it.

Under Huynh’s direction, D’ORSAY works with some of contemporary perfumery’s most accomplished noses, including Olivia Giacobetti, Fanny Bal, Dominique Ropion, Jordi Fernandez, Caroline Dumur, and Vincent Ricord. French craftsmanship remains equally central to the house, with local glassmakers, waxmakers, artisans, and manufacturers contributing to a world that extends from personal fragrance to objects and scents for the home.

D’ORSAY is perfumery as private language. Romantic without nostalgia, intimate without explanation, and always suspended somewhere between two people.
